If you haven’t discovered Blake Snyder’s Beat Sheets, prepare to have your writing world rocked. I’ve held two Beat Party’s since I was introduced to his methods and everyone has had great success. I am plotting a complicated paranormal thriller and used the beat sheets to plot out my four viewpoints. What a fabulous tool!
I’m scheduling another beat party. If you’re working on a novel or memoir (or if you want to work on a novel or memoir) you owe it to your process to learn and apply Blake Snyder’s method. It’s not a formula. But it is. It’s a way of looking at your story as a series of points in an arc of change that you should meet.
Working with five other writers you will share your story and beat out your arc. I present the process and then you have the floor. We ask questions, make suggestions and help you fill out your beat sheet. But that’s not all!
You digest the information overnight and come back for another round where everyone gets time to refine their arc. When you leave you should have your story.
Join the next party. You’ll be amazed.
Beat Party Testimonials:
WARNING: Do not sign up for a Beat Party with Deb McLeod if you’re still thinking “maybe, someday I’ll write that book.” In this expertly led small-group encounter, ideas are rapidly transformed into storylines, and the end-of-experience prize is a full outline for your novel or memoir. I walked away with much more than a plan for writing; instead, I gained newfound skills for honing my storytelling craft, plus the excitement and enthusiasm that comes with knowing I’m about to create something extraordinary. – Amy Scott Grant
Deb, Thank you so very much for hosting the ‘Beat Party’. It was a lot of fun and I really got the big picture for the story I want to tell and how to put it together. I learned so much just by seeing the other ideas in the class broken down with this method. I look forward to the next step in the journey. Please keep me on your mailing list. – Kris Bussell
Deb McLeod’s Beat Party was more than I ever imagined – very productive and great fun! Deb led us through Blake Snyder’s 15 Beats and then accordingly helped us beat out or shape our own novel ideas to deliver the biggest punch. Suggestions from the others around the table produced rich, sometimes hilarious, right-on-target insights for points in question. We each made good headway on our work. I left feeling empowered to carry on with my novel and see it to the end. Deb is good, knows her business, and makes you get to work! – Marlin Day Cwach
The Beat Party was a flash a brilliant light to me in moving ahead with my memoir. With the fifteen points of a successful story confirmed, I now move ahead to complete the story I so desperately want to write. Deb’s knowledge, talent, patience and coaching ability resulted in a huge jump in growth and confidence in just this one weekend. Thank you sincerely! – Barbara Goldy
If I’d have known this existed, I’d have written and published innumerable novels by this ancient age! But, not without someone to make sense out of it for me. Deb is a fabulous coach, very encouraging, gives fresh insight, helped me with ideas, and getting over stumbling blocks. The best part? I got really excited about writing thinking I have a great idea, don’t know what to do with it, and get into a slump and forget about writing. All I can say is, a huge thanks to Deb and if you’re in the southern suburbs of Denver area and are serious about writing, do yourself a favor and go to one of her introductory courses, then follow your instincts. She’s a keeper. – Ann Leigh
Deb has an intuitive and empowering approach as a writing coach. I am finally able to let my inner writer come out of the closet. My creation of words can be heard and respected in a way that feels safe and comforting, as well as bold in a subtle sense, while maintaining the delicate balance needed for artistic types. I have not worked with her very long but feel a lifetime connection through her easy going spirit. She gives real people real solutions that are genuine and productive! – Fay Hammel
